Position Summary

The Cable Blowing Technician installs fiber optic cable through conduit systems using compressed air blowing machines. This role ensures proper handling of delicate fiber strands, adheres to bend radius guidelines, and supports long-distance or high-density network builds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate cable blowing machines (e.g., Plumettaz, Condux) to install fiber in microduct or innerduct
  • Read and interpret route maps, duct plans, and blowing schematics
  • Prep fiber cable, couplers, seals, and ensure safe handling throughout installation
  • Monitor blowing tension, lubricant flow, and environmental factors to prevent damage
  • Maintain blowing logs and document footage installed
  • Assist with cable slack storage and handhole organization

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1+ year experience with cable jetting/blowing systems
  • Familiarity with microduct systems and fiber handling best practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot jams and environmental obstructions

Preferred:

  • OSHA 10 certification

  • Outdoor job sites, often covering long routes in varying terrain
