Learning Alliance Launches FLDOE Approved Wind Turbine Program
For Immediate Release 5/17/2022
Learning Alliance Corporation (LAC) announces the launch of a new Wind Turbine Program, which gained approval from the Florida Department of Education and the Global Wind Organization (GWO).
“Folks here at Learning Alliance have worked very diligently to build a world-class training venue with realistic equipment to reflect what technicians will see in a real work environment and develop a very comprehensive program in compliance with Global Wind Organization standards,” said Justin Simpson, Program Manager of the Wind Energy Training Division at LAC.
The facility was built to GWO specifications incorporating multiple confined space rescue areas and ladders containing vertical lifelines. Students will leave the program with two GWO-recognized credentials – ART and BST.
“We are very excited to offer a curriculum and certification that is globally recognized. We also look forward to serving a wide variety of clients, from US military veterans wishing to develop valuable trade skills as they make their transition into civilian life, and existing wind energy technicians that must re-certify their training every two years,” said Justin.
LAC partnered with Torkworx early in 2021 to pilot the initial wind program. The success of it allowed LAC to understand the needs of the industry as well as help a company grow their workforce.
“Torkworx and LAC partnered at the end of 2021 to bring 24 new wind technicians into our company. Overall, the program was a success, and we were able to scale up our organization. We are looking forward to continuing the relationship with LAC’s new program that offers ART and BST certifications within the GWO framework,” said Kevin Corley, CEO of Torkworx.
The Wind Turbine Program will provide students with an Advanced Rescue Training certification (ART), and a Basic Safety Training certification (BST). These certifications provide students with important skills like:
- Fire Awareness
- First Aid
- Working at Heights
- Manual Handling
- Confined Space Rescue
- Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue
- Nacelle, Tower and Basement Rescue
“We constructed everything to GWO standards to stay ahead of the education curve and the demands of companies in wind energy. The GWO certifications provide the most current and well-rounded curriculum available,” said Derrick Francis, Director of Education at LAC.
The program will also equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to appropriately respond in the event of an emergency and to increase their safety through proper use of personal protective equipment, emergency equipment and procedures.
“All our skilled and experienced instructors are thrilled to share their years of knowledge with the next generation of skilled workers in the Renewable Energy Sector,” said Justin.
