Low Voltage Installer




Position Summary

The Low Voltage Installer is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of structured cabling systems within data center environments. This role supports the physical layer infrastructure required for networking, security, and IT systems by deploying copper, fiber optic, and coaxial cables according to industry standards and client specifications. Work may include new construction, retrofits, and live facility upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a copper cabling and single-mode/multimode fiber optic cabling
  • Route cables in overhead trays, raised floors, and conduit following proper bend radius and separation standards
  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, cable trays, ladder racks, and enclosures
  • Label and document cable runs, ports, and patch panel connections
  • Perform cable certification and troubleshooting using Fluke testers, fiber inspection tools, and OTDRs
  • Adhere to ANSI/TIA/EIA, BICSI, and NECA standards for structured cabling systems
  • Support installation of low voltage systems such as access control, surveillance, and environmental sensors
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Follow all site safety protocols
  • Collaborate with network engineers, facility technicians, and construction teams

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-3 years of experience in low voltage installation or structured cabling
  • Proficiency in cable pulling, termination, labeling, and testing
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and cable schedules
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical specifications

Preferred:

  • Experience with fiber polishing, fusion splicing, or MPO/MTP connector systems
  • OSHA 10/30 certification
  • Experience working in live data centers or mission-critical environments

Work Environment


  • Fast-paced, high-security data center environment
  • May require working in elevated areas, confined spaces, or under raised floors
  • Physical work including lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, climbing ladders, and repetitive motion
  • May involve night shifts or off-hours depending on customer cutovers or maintenance windows
  • PPE and strict adherence to safety protocols are mandatory
